Yes, the display on the outside of the door can be changed easily. You have to just remove it from the door and open the back of the display with a tiny Phillips head screwdriver. Inside, you will see a small switch and when you move it to the other side the display will change to Celsius. If your display has quit working this is also where you can change the battery to get it working again.
Yes, if you have a heat and cool unit, it will maintain the correct temperature even in the winter. However, it does need to be in some sort of shelter. You cannot leave the unit in a snowdrift (or outside in the direct summer sun).
